Seattle-based investment firm founded in 1997 by Li Lu, a Tiananmen Square student leader turned value investor. Charlie Munger, who provided $88M seed capital in 2004 and called Li Lu "the Chinese Warren Buffett," was his partner until Munger's death in 2023. Himalaya runs a highly concentrated, long-only value strategy focused on publicly traded companies in Asia and North America. The 13F portfolio is historically dominated by a handful of names — Bank of America, Alphabet, Berkshire Hathaway, and PDD Holdings — with the top 3 positions accounting for over 75% of US AUM. Li Lu's early recommendation of BYD to Munger led to Berkshire's legendary investment in the Chinese EV maker.
